VN - Ren'Py - Being a DIK [v0.11.1] [DrPinkCake]

Simply the best Ren'Py game out there. Superior in every single aspect. Stunning visual and models, fine script, ok-ish gameplay. What else do you need? There is nothing realy more to say. Easily the top 3, if not top 1.

Yes this game is THAT good. Play it already my guy. Renders are top notch, pace is nice, and characters are nicely written and likeable and very beautiful!! Sage is my favorite character, i also really like Riona and Quinn and Zoey. can't wait to see where DPC takes us next but so far I have not been able to find another VN that delivers at this level. can't wait and Goodluck to dev!! (Also guys support if you like the game cuz then we can keep enjoying such beautiful pieces of art) ❤❤❤

I like the style of the story, the story really feels alive, also the artist's art is different from the others, there's a battle system too that makes it even more exciting, in my opinion that's what makes this game feel different from the others.. hopefully there will be more games like this

10/10 everything that you want from this kind of games, a lot of woman, a lot of paths, 5 principal girls and everyone around them. Its just perfect, just wanting to see more, here since season 1 and here since this will end

Haha this game reminds me with the good old days of me at high school, even brought tears to my eyes (don't ask me about my college experience, it was fine but nothing special about it).

Overall, this game is such a gem. Multiple choices that really matter are what make this AVN feels special than any other AVNs.

Jesus Christ, maybe I maxed out my chick meter irl, but this game gave me some serious feels. When choosing between girls to pursue, if you decide not to follow through with Bella, fuck man...
Also poor Troy...
Other than that:
The mini-games were quite enjoyable as they added some variety to the game flow, especially the class games, as they actually posed a bit of a challenge.
One thing one might add is that a lot of the emotional bits rely on music to really pack a punch and some might see this as cheap (This game did remind me of a more sexual Life is Strange).
But I still found myself coming back to this, even if you just care for the sex stuff, there are some great scenes/renders.

Fantastic game, played Season 1 and 2 several times over the years, bit hard to get back into now with the continuations but a must play when it's all wrapped up. Great artwork and story, some gameplay can be a bit grindy but worth it. 9.5/10

Apart from that, the chars can be a bit cliche here and there... but it's still one of the most fun in the genre for sure!

There are some characters that are just really well rendered and written that you actually get immersed. For me, that was Envy

[v0.9.1] Very good game. If you want play it from the beginning, you have to download +25GB and 2 game folders (Seasons 1-2 and Season 3), which is not good. But all of this is worth? My summary:

- Good story. Not too complex story, you are a 18yo guy who starts university, with a high focus on fraternities/sorority american culture and obviously, a lot of sex/parties.

- H-scenes are great. Very well directed scenes.

- Very good animations.

- The pace of the scenes are good. Moments for story, time for scenes, I liked.

- Character design very good. There are a lot of variety of girls's physical design, like young/MILF, redhead/blonde/brunette, asian/caucasian etc. They have different personalities too, some of them I like so much.

- Great sound. In the whole playthrough you a vast variety of background music, mostly rock but too other types. Some sound effects but no moans or voices.

- Technically perfect. 0 bugs, stable fps.

* The game include minigames, which are totally skipeable, but they are nice and you can earn money ingame to buy sexual services for example or lewd images. If you play with no minigames, the game balance itself giving more money.

* This is the type of game which you need to do several playthrough to unlock all H-scenes, which is pretty bad in my opinion. That, the minigames and the collables legthen the game too much (only for this I cant give it 5 stars).

i've been thinking... how tf can I give a review to something that alienates me so much?

This is the only game that I come back to see scenes with the LI's (Quinn and "others", obviously).

The dialogue and the images talk with one another, and it gives a sense of "finished dialogue" and uniquess to every conversation.

You have choices during the conversations and you can - somewhat - shape how the conversations gonna go, it really gives a impression that you are talking with someone. Not only that, but the other characters constantly reminds the choices that were made in other moments, givin you the sense that you are in the control of the MC.

It really amazes me the fact that every character are they own person. I feel like we can guess which character is talking just by reading the dialogues.
The LI's are just as interesting as any other one random street dude, because they all are fuckin- great.
Also, the characters feels finished; DPC can just throw two characters at any scene and they just going to start talk automatically.

Another thing that amazes me about this game is the fact that we build our name, we don't start right from the bat as the 'highest fucking thing in the room'.
For many scenes you going to be at the back seat and wait until you have the oportunity to make the right choice (if you choose the right one), givin some tension even at the anwsers that you give.

One thing that is really desappointing about the game is the "chick route", the game punishes the player SO HARD for being simply a nice person(!?). Like... I love the Dik route, it's the one that fits me the best, but sometimes I simply don't want to be rude, not because I'm building the "mr. nice guy" but because would be simply DUMB and irrational to be rude at that specific moment.
Every time I tried the 'Chick' route, I would ended feeling humilieted and miserable(?) maybe it is just me.
I don't get it... it's like the chick route doesn't make any fucking sense. How can you get so punished just for being NORMAL?
I feel like DPC is trying to teach us a lesson here... if you play by the rules, you end with 2 girls and a college loan, instead of 99999 'others' and a drug deal job.

with all that said: at the end this is just a college drama game that allows the player to live an interesting campus life, full of adventures and seggs.

I'm trully excited to see what DPC is going to do next.

This is the G.O.A.T. of this genre no questions asked. I only wish that I discovered this game a little further on so I wouldn't have to wait for future updates. The hype is real! Looking forward for what Dr PinkCake will give to us.

I just don't get it. Every review is giving this a 5/5 when everything except the visuals/music is bang average.

• Poor writing: The writing is mediocre and the dialogues are often cringe-worthy. A lot of the conversations feel unnatural and forced.
• Lack of character development: The characters are one-dimensional and lack depth. They feel like caricatures of typical college stereotypes. This would be fine, if these characters weren't meant to be taken seriously
• Repetitive gameplay: The Sandbox game's structure is repetitive, and it often feels like you are doing the same thing over and over again. Seriously tedious. The free roams & branching paths kill the dynamism & content totally, I couldn't bear to do keep replaying 3-4 times just to see the different LI paths.

After a long while I've decided to give this game a shot, and I totally fell in love with it.
While at its core the story is nothing special, it is made really engaging by the different cast of characters, there was not a single moment I've skipped.
It was always a pleasure to know what would happen next, and consequently a torture having to force myself to quit when my play time was over.

I do not care as much about renders, but as the previews show, they're obviously high quality.
Sex scenes always contain multiple angles, animations and even poses.
There is a perfect balance between story, and sex scenes.
You can also unlock extra renders by hunting for them in the sandbox mode, or by finding the password on each chapter... I do not really care for those, but if you enjoy and find pictures sexy, then you will love this.
There are also 2D ones later in the story.

Minigames are really well done, with my favourites being brawling and tennis.
The music for brawling tops it though, but there are many other good tracks. There are a few stock ones here and there, but they're few.
Overall the music in this game is one of the best I've experienced so far, and it always fits the moment.

The amount of content to play is huge, I've started playing two weeks ago and I've just recently finished the seventh episode (Isabella route!)
However, before trying the eighth and ninth chapter, I will be replaying to try for some other routes.
I am not really in a rush to reach the current end, so I'll take my time to see the content of other routes, such as Sage's... She is also pretty cool, but Isabella remains the best and what I'll consider my "main route".

Truly one, if not the best, game I've played up to date.

Interesting story! Made me sleep less lol. I just finished season 2 with Jill, rank 2 is Sage next Bella, Maya, Josy and so on.... Well if Bella is not that complicated she'd rank 1 next is Jill

Review for v0.9.1

As a harem enjoyer who absolutely despises being route locked, this game is fucking great.

What makes Being a DIK so good for someone who would otherwise avoid it like the plague for reasons above? It boils down to something very simple for me: the game is just a lot of fun, full stop. It takes all the typical elements of what you might think college life contains and combines it all into an experience that makes me crack wide smiles like very few other games do.

Being a DIK doesn't have an incredibly intricate plot and writing, as it really is a bunch of college drama and bullshit, but that's more than fine for me. It's well done college drama and bullshit.

What makes this game really shine are the characters. They feel real. You laugh with them, you feel sad for them, you hate them, and you love them. They stick in your memory. Even further, no game has made me care as much about the male characters of all things as much as this one does. I loved going through hell week with Derek, and I loved getting to know all the DIKs.

The music, the environments and renders, the animations, the events, the minigames and sandbox elements, the list goes on. Everything is very well thought out and put together, making for an incredibly solid AVN.

Honestly the weakest part of the game for me? The sex scenes. I felt a good amount of them sort of blended together in the way they are done. They usually just throw a list of animations you can switch through and leave it at that. Though a few do stick out above the rest. Despite that, I still found myself sticking to the game because of how much I enjoy the characters. A very come for the porn stay for the plot type of experience for me.

One more thing I want to mention, on my most recent playthrough I used the multi-mod to essentially play a harem mode and see everything without having to replay a bunch. If you're like me and find it hard to get into the game because you don't want to choose, I'd recommend trying that out.

Being a DIK...

I have to say, the story & the setting of the game were not what I was expecting after reading the title. I was quite... surprised to see the game's story but I got into it with time. The characters are great and you will keep on seeing nearly everyone you're introducted to throughout the game - which is a great way of getting the player into the "college experience" the game strives to accomplish. Speaking of characters, there are a nice variety of love interests you can choose from, since I played the game using the mod - I didn't really have to make a choice on who I wanted to continue my relationship with (which in my opinion the dev should've kept it this way) and it's great to see that every love interest gets the amount of attention they deserve & they all have their own character development.

The plot twists in the game are very pleasant and delivers just the right amount of punch for you to start caring more about the story and characers themselves. I have to say though, I am not a huge fan of the many things characters do/approve and force you to do in the game, especially the ones DIKs tell you to - but they were less tedious than normal thanks to the mod.

The "freeroam" parts of the game, excluding the parties are not exciting in the slightest and the only things that are fun to do during those sessions are to check the Rooster app & text/call the people you're acquainted with.

The graphics & the sex scenes are nicely done,with just the right amount of touch to them and the way they differ in experience depending on which character(s) you're having the scenes with is a great touch. One thing I'm not a huge fan of is the overly exaggerated body proportions on some of the characters, mainly the love interests but the scenes themselves balance that con out.

Music is great barring the fact that some of the tracks repeat too much in certain scenes but it does a great job of setting the scenery up whether you're having sex, in a party or just chilling with your friends.

Overall, Being a DIK is a pleasant experience and the amount of content it has definitely makes it one of the best AVN games out there. You should give it a shot and keep on playing until the story unfolds a bit since the game might not manage to pull you in right from the start. I'm excited to see how the game's going to manage an ending and any future content as of game version v0.9.1 when I'm writing this review.

So it's my time to review it, then... And it's hard.

This game is very time-consuming sometimes cockblocking fest with a lot of minigames =) they are actually decent, but the drinking game is a nightmare fuel, I was waiting for a screamer every puzzle, doesn't matter though.

I was catched by the story! But it never delivered. There were new and new routes, in the end the protagonist is not a... protagonist. He's nothing. It was fast-paced and fun in the beginning, but now I couldn't care less. Sadge.

Sex-scenes are good. I loved them. Such a shame that there aren't, like, a lot, at least by one playthrough. There are though, don't worry. But no matter what, you'll be missing out, I haven't see playthough, but maybe should have.

Overall experience, subtle and not so- humour, man, that was good. I just wish it was more logical, fast-paced, and with more H-content. Rendered images in gallery do not count.

Great models, the MC has a cheat code, but because of it, the plot is paced beautifully. However, as it's a porn game, I don't care too much about it.
The sex scenes include animations and a variety of camera perspectives. Bravo, Dev. (Please go and fund them, this kind of effort needs to be acknowledged).
The plot effortlessly creates and dissolves tensions; it never feels hurried. In the story, there are a few things that I am hoping to learn more about; perhaps in updates to come.
Based on subsequent plays, I will modify my evaluation.
There are several VNs on this website, but this one demonstrates the work that went into it.

4* only becuase my review will not make any difference, a must play none the less

I'm not sure if there is any thing left untold about this game but it's one of the two game (along with 'Eternum' by Caribdis) in the market that sets the quality standard for the rest of the adult visual novels in pretty much every aspect. If anything, Eternum is more solid piece of work in terms of technical showcase than Being a DIK. But rest assured, both are masterpieces on their own.

Most powerful aspect of this game have to be the characters. You could believe they are real. Each character has its own very well written detailed personality and deep story arch that emotionally drag you along with genuine emotions.

Sicne everyone knows how great this game is, I just want to get to the point to criticize one aspect, and that is is the quite distinguishable render inconsistency of characters between early episodes and the latest episodes.

I'm not sure if Dr PinkCake would consider reworking those early renders to match up the quality consistency when the project is finished, but I really hope he would.

Best Adult Game ............... Period!
If you havent played it, you havent played an adult game. I don't know where the creator is taking the game, but we sure are enjoying the ride. There are some decision points where you have to take some action you wouldnt want your MC to take (specially the Jill path) if you had the options. I hope in future DPC will take that into consideration. Still love the game.
